Erasmus Mundus Programme

Our Master Applied Ethics (MAE) is a one-year (60 ECTS) professional master programme which has been qualified by the European Commission as an Erasmus Mundus programme. Erasmus Mundus programmes are selected for their quality. Students study in at least two European universities. Our programme is a joint venture of  Linköping University, Utrecht University and the Norwegian University of Technology in Trondheim (NTNU).

All students study one semester at one, and one semester at another university.

Thanks to our Erasmus Mundus qualification, we have the possibility to select students for Erasmus Mundus scholarships. For more information on scholarships, see our programme website.

The objective of the Master´s programme is to create and develop ethical reflection and ethical competence on a European level, as a mix of relevant theoretical and practical knowledge, understanding, and evaluation. More specifically, the aim is to achieve competence in:

  • Identifying and analysing moral problems in different social and professional contexts
  • Presenting sound input to public and professional debates on moral issues and being able to structure and evaluate those debates
  • Formulating theory-based policy recommendations and assessments regarding moral issues in specific practice (e.g., health care, law, business, environmental affairs, ICT or journalism)
  • Organising constructive ethical deliberation in institutional and professional contexts

In this way, the programme enhances both the quality of applied ethics as an academic field and a s a professional practice. Furthermore, it is instrumental in focusing on ethical aspects of medicine, public health, technology, politics and business and, hence improve s the quality of professions and practices on a European level.
